EU Commission unveils new simplification initiatives to boost competitiveness

Today, the European Commission introduced a series of initiatives aimed at simplifying rules and strengthening Europe’s competitiveness. These include the overarching Clean Industrial Deal, featuring the Action Plan for Affordable Energy, as well as the First Omnibus on Sustainability Reporting and the Second Omnibus on Investment Simplification.

We welcome these efforts, which respond to urgent calls for action highlighted in Enrico Letta’s Much More than a Market report and Mario Draghi’s The Future of European Competitiveness.

While this is a step in the right direction, there is still a need for greater recognition of the role digital technologies can play in the green transition, as well as more clarity on how to unlock further investment. Many details still require closer examination.
